The Death of Dating?

August 23, 2009

I've read a lot of stories lately about the death of dating due to the fact that most people in their teens and 20's just want to hang out together and hook up. Sexreally.com has a good podcast that talks with two groups of women who confirm that this is basically the current reality of the dating scene and that none of them has ever been on a real date. Think about that, two groups of women and not a single one of them has had a real date. Which would be fine if they didn't mind, but the interesting part of the podcast was that they're all clearly dissatisfied with the state of things. You can absolutely hear it in their voices. These women want a real date where a guy takes the time to plan an activity, drives over to pick them up, and they go out for a fun night together. And it's not about getting the guy to spend money, they’re even happy to split the cost, it's about a guy spending time to romance them and create a special shared experience. It may not seem like the in-thing to do right now, but guys should understand that the ones who put in a little effort have a huge advantage. This doesn't mean every date has to be a big production, that can come across as a little needy anyway, no, the point is to sprinkle some memorable dates in with the everyday stuff so that she knows you take her seriously and want your relationship to have meaning.

And the girls are getting tired of waiting. As Lillie says "Maybe it's on us. Maybe we should just put our foot down and not take anything less than a real date." I think they should.

This is why Hot Date Ideas exists and hopefully some of you out there will take advantage of our date ideas and support the site by spreading the word and providing feedback.

Listen to the full podcast here (8 minutes).
